1987 July 1: The banner says it all as Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson and chairman Martin Edwards unveil new players Viv Anderson, left, and Brian McClair, right, at Old Trafford.

Full back Anderson, who came from Arsenal for £250,000, was Ferguson's first signing at the club. He made 54 senior appearances from 1987 to 1991, scoring three goals.

Forward McClair signed from Celtic for a transfer fee of £850,000. In his first season for United he scored 24 league goals, becoming the first player to score more than 20 league goals in a season since George Best in 1967-68.

McClair made 355 senior appearances for the Red Devils scoring 88 goals. He moved to Motherwell in 1998.
