KEVIN de Bruyne has been described as the 'assist king' by Rio Ferdinand.

The City playmaker was pivotal to Pep Guardiola's side romping away with the Premier League title last season - and is key to Belgium's World Cup hopes.

He was at the heart of his country's last-gasp winning goal against Japan in Monday's last-16 tie - and Ferdinand admits he has no equal in England's top flight.

"He's the assist king in the Premier League," the former United defender said.

"This guy is such a joy to watch, a great footballer, plays off both feet, balance.

"But what I love about him as well, in this team, he's a trigger a lot of the time when they press the ball.

"Once he does receive the ball, his first option is to kill the opposition.

"He could go safe with that pass, but he plays for the jugular to get in towards goal. …
