Centene's Finalizes Nearly $4 Billion Purchase of Fidelis Care

Centene Corp. on Tuesday announced it had closed on its $3.75 billion acquisition of Fidelis Care.

The deal, which was first announced in September, adds New York, the country's second-largest managed care state by membership, to the Clayton-based health insurer's health plan portfolio and expands Centene's national leadership in government-sponsored health care.

Fidelis Care is a nonprofit health care plan run by the Catholic Church in New York.

Centene's core business is contracting with states to manage the care of Medicaid recipients, or individuals with low incomes who qualify for subsidized health care.

With Fidelis Care, Centene will have a major footprint in California, Florida, New York and Texas, states with the largest Medicaid enrollment. …
