ROCHDALE have moved level with Swinton at the bottom of the Betfred Championship table after a last-gasp fightback victory over the Lions at the Crown Oil Arena.

Hornets had trailed for the entirety of the match, but crucially took the lead in the final seconds when Morgan Smith converted his own try to secure a vital 28-26 win.

Swinton stormed into an early 12-0 lead thanks to tries from George Tyson and Mike Butt - both on the back of superb 40/20s from Chris Hankinson, who added two penalties to extend the visitors' advantage after Seta Tala had got Alan Kilshaw's side on the board.

Richard Lepori crossed for Rochdale after good work from Tala and Joe Taira cut the deficit to just two points at the break.

Another Hankinson penalty was the only score of the second-half until Paddy Jones scored his first for the club with just over 12 minutes remaining, giving the Lions a 10-point advantage. …
