YOUNG and old alike, thousands took part in the annual Race For Life event at Heaton Park.

Runners were raising money for Cancer Research UK in Saturday's 5K in which many took part in memory of loved ones they have lost.

Because of a month of dry and hot weather, the 'pretty muddy 5K' had a problem.

So organisers made their own mud, spraying runners as they made their way through obstacles dotted along the course.

Pictures show smiling people frolicking in the mud as they attempt to tackle slippery inflatables.

People of all ages and athletic ability were seen having a great time, while also raising money for charity.

Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent was among those joining in the fun for a cause close to her heart after a close family friend was diagnosed with cancer.

For this year's event, organisers also introduced a 'pretty muddy kids' event just for children. …
