City Enters Second Phase of Vacant Home Demolition Project Initiative Work Is Part of Mckeesport Rising

Many more vacant, deteriorating homes in McKeesport will be demolished in the near future.

As part of the city's McKeesport Rising Project, council voted July 10 to authorize the demolition of 115 houses with the work being done in-house.

Council also approved a contract with Jadell Minniefield Construction Services of Pittsburgh to demolish another 92 houses at a cost of $742,500.

This is phase two of a three-phase process to demolish vacant houses in the city.

Last month, council awarded a $711,500 contract with Jadell Minniefield for demolition.

"You're going to have 300 homes in the City of McKeesport under contract to be demolished in 2018," Mayor Michael Cherepko said earlier this year.

Included on the in-house demolition list are several homes on Hamilton, Gas and Jerry Lind streets, as well as Atlantic and Evans avenues. …
