Sid Grossman, Longtime Scrap Industry Executive, Dies at 99

Sidney Grossman, who led St. Louis-based Grossman Iron & Steel for more than half a century, died July 11, 2018, of natural causes. He was 99.

Mr. Grossman was the second-generation owner of the buyer and processor of scrap iron and steel, located in north St. Louis on the Mississippi riverfront, taking over the company from his father as president between 1943 and 1995.

He was a charter member of the St. Louis Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization in 1952 and became president of the organization in 1962. He also helped form the World Presidents Organization in 1971 and led the group as national president in 1979.

Cap Grossman, Mr. Grossman's son, who took over as president of the company in 1995, said his father was an innovator in the scrap industry. …
