Reds' Chief Scout Ribalta Leaves for Top Job in Russia

JAVIER Ribalta has left his job as United's chief scout to take up a new role as Zenit St Petersburg's sporting director after just a year at the club.

The Spaniard's arrival was hailed as a coup after five years working at Juventus and seen as a significant development in United's scouting overhaul; the club's scouting network has trebled in size in recent years. Ribalta worked alongside chief scout Jim Lawlor and head of global scouting Marcel Bout during his time at the club and made a number of appearances at Old Trafford during the course of the season.

MEN Sport understands there was no 'bad reason' behind the scout's departure and Ribalta sees the chance to step up and become a sporting director as a 'great challenge'. The Spaniard had been recruited to help bring in new faces for Jose Mourinho 's senior team and the junior ranks. …
