Walmart Expands Grocery Delivery to St. Louis

Walmart on Tuesday will begin offering its online grocery delivery service in the St. Louis market.

Shoppers of the retail giant will be able to order groceries online or through a mobile app and have those groceries delivered to their home on the same day. No subscriptions are required, and each delivery will include a $9.95 fee.

Deliver or pickup of groceries ordered online has become standard practice for chains with any scale to capture or retain market share.

Grocers such as Schnucks, Fresh Thyme, Sam's Club, Whole Foods and Straub's offer delivery through Instacart. Dierbergs offers delivery through Shipt, a subsidiary of Target.

Amazon, which acquired Whole Foods last year for $13.7 billion, allows its Prime members to receive a 10 percent discount at Missouri Whole Foods stores, although this benefit is not yet available at its three area stores. …
