2002 JULY 22: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson introduces the club's latest signing, Rio Ferdinand, at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old defender moved to United from Leeds for £29.1m, making him the sixth most expensive footballer of all time.

Ferdinand made 312 appearances for the Red Devils from 2002 to 2014, scoring seven goals.

He won six Premier League titles at United as well as 14 other trophies, including the European Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

1969 JULY 28: Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, delighted well-wishers when she stopped for a chat during her visit to Altrincham.

The Duchess took part in a tree-planting ceremony and toured local shops and schools.
