UK a 'Laughing Stock on Brexit' Says Town Hall Leader

THE UK has become a 'laughing stock' over Brexit and it is 'ridiculous' to attempt to get into bed with Donald Trump for a trade deal, a Greater Manchester town hall leader has claimed.

Councillor Brenda Warrington told members of Tameside's full council that the country is currently being driven into the 'depths of despondency' by the lack of positive progress towards a deal with the European Union, and voters are being 'shortchanged' by the government. A heated debate erupted in the council chamber on Tuesday night when Hyde Godley councillor Jim Fitzpatrick said the referendum had already cost one prime minister and 12 cabinet ministers their jobs.

He was speaking following the resignations of Brexit secretary David Davis and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson following the failure of the Chequers pact earlier this month.

"It goes on and on and on. Thousands of people are losing jobs because of the EU referendum," he said.

"This government are in such a mess over Brexit and they don't know what to do - even local councillors are resigning from the Tory party."

Saddleworth South Coun Liam Billington responded: "People in Tameside, over 60 pc of them, voted to leave so respect their wishes. Stop obstructing Brexit because people in Tameside want to get on with it.

"You have Tameside Labour MPs who are not cooperating at all and are more interested in bringing down the government rather than getting a good deal for Britain. …
