Police announce northern Alberta cocaine bust

EDMONTON - Police in Alberta say they have dismantled a cocaine trafficking network that stretched from Edmonton to Fort McMurray following allegations that a former barber shop was involved.

Police say Project Fortune resulted in the seizure of more than $1 million worth of cocaine and cash, as well as 49 criminal charges being laid against seven suspects.

The 16-month investigation was conducted by numerous RCMP detachments and Edmonton police under the leadership of ALERT, a provincially funded initiative.

A news release from ALERT says information was provided that the Barbero Barbershop in Sherwood Park, Alta., which has since closed, was involved in cocaine trafficking. …
