¦ August 5, 1992: British racing cyclist Chris Boardman poses with his wife Sally-Anne and children Edward and Harriet at Manchester airport after winning gold at the Barcelona Olympics.

Boardman, who won the individual 4km pursuit event at Barcelona, also broke the world hour record for the longest distance cycled three times. He was awarded the MBE in 1992 for services to cycling. Boardman was famous for using the Lotus 108 time trial bicycle designed by Mike Burrows and made by the Lotus sports car company. He is now Greater Manchester cycling and walking commissioner.
