A 60-26 victory over Hemel Stags last time out might have moved Oldham into the top four of the Betfred League 1 table, but coach Scott Naylor wants to see a significant improvement from his side when they take on Whitehaven at the Vestacare Stadium this weekend.

The Cumbrian side went down 46-0 to leaders Bradford last time out, but could move above Roughyeds with victory - and if other results go against them, Oldham could drop as low as seventh.

"It's always pleasing to win and it was a win we needed, especially with the competition for play-off spots being so tight," said Naylor.

"Am I pleased at the performance? Not really. It wasn't good to see them score 28 points. That's not what we are about.

"We needed to be a lot better defensively and we will have to improve massively on defence against Whitehaven, who are one of our main rivals for a play-off spot. …
