OTTAWA - The Ottawa Fury have signed veteran Canadian defender David Edgar.

The USL club announced the move Wednesday.

Edgar, a native of Kitchener, Ont., played for more than a decade in the English leagues with Newcastle United, Burnley FC, Swansea City, Birmingham City and Sheffield United.

A free agent after parting ways with Birmingham City at the conclusion of the 2015-16 English Championship season, he joined Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2016 summer transfer window.

He made eight regular-season appearances - all starts - in his first season with Vancouver, but missed the entire 2017 MLS season due to injury.

The six-foot-four defender most recently spent some time with Nashville SC in the USL, where he played five matches before being release at the end of May. …
