ON the day owner Derek Beaumont issued a statement expressing his 'disappointment' further players did not move on from the club prior to the transfer deadline last month, Leigh kicked off their Championship Shield campaign with a comprehensive victory over Sheffield Eagles.

Beaumont, who confirmed after the Centurions missed out on a spot in the Super 8 Qualifiers that he would seek alternative ownership for the club, revealed the plan is to revert to a part-time operation - provided players with existing contracts for the season ahead agree to part ways.

"Ultimately that will be decided by the players who have contracts as to what they choose to do, but the harsh reality is that if they attempt to stay then the club won't be able to survive," he said.

Leigh ran out 68-6 winners thanks to Ilias Bergal's four tries, a Drew Hutchison brace and scores from Nathan Mason, Mitch Cox, Ricky Bailey, Jack Owens and Matty Dawson-Jones. …
