August 12, 1946: Riders enjoy the high-speed thrills of the Bobs rollercoaster at Belle Vue amusement park and zoo.

The Bobs, so-called because it cost an old shilling to ride, was one of the park's premier attractions along with the water chute and dodgems.

Cars on the popular rollercoaster travelled at 60 miles per hour down an 80ft drop, which was angled at 45 degrees.

The ride's distinctive white-painted wooden structure was a prominent feature on the Belle Vue skyline for many years.

August 11, 1965: Newly-appointed assistant manager Malcolm Allison sits on the Manchester City bench for the first time during a pre-season friendly at Maine Road.

Manager Joe Mercer remained in the stands as Allison bawled out commands to the players.
