A TEENAGER was arrested after armed police combed the streets looking for a man with a knife in the city centre.

The drama unfolded just after 1.30pm, following reports to police that a man was carrying a knife in Chinatown.

Armed officers were among those who flooded the area, with numerous police cars and vans spotted parked and officers patrolling the roads around Faulkner Street after the alarm was raised.

Police said officers carried out searches in the area and an 18-year-old man was eventually arrested.

They have since confirmed no one was injured and that inquiries into exactly what had happened were ongoing. Eyewitnesses saw the teenager being apprehended, handcuffed and placed into a police van on Nicholas Street, just off Princess Street. …
