WINNIPEG. x-08s. A speaker at the the Canadian Medical Association inaugural Health Summit in Winnipeg has shared how his own family members were dismissed when they went to the hospital because they are Indigenous. Dr. Alika (AH'-lee-kah) Lafontaine, who is a Cree and Anishinaabe, also pointed to issues like addictions, lack of housing and other inequalities that impact health. The anesthesiologist says Indigenous communities need to take control of their health and work to support each other.
