St. Louis Man's Lawsuit Says He Was Jailed for 3+ Months Due to Hazelwood Police Errors

ST. LOUIS - A man from St. Louis sued Hazelwood and two police officers in federal court Wednesday, saying their failure to properly investigate a robbery left him in jail for more than three months.

The suit says that Bernard Furr was charged after being accused of robbing two people at a gas station in the 7300 block of North Lindbergh Boulevard on Nov. 16, 2016.

The suit says Hazelwood officers Brendan Gilbert and Matthew Curry failed to check surveillance video or Furr's alibi that he was in the hospital at the time. They never asked the gas station's clerk, who knew the real robber, to identify Furr, the suit says.

When presenting a photo lineup to the robbery victims, the only picture of a man with a beard was Furr's, the suit says. The robber was bearded. …
