School Board Schedules Hearing for Removal of Superintendent

The school board will hold an Act 1080 public hearing to consider the removal of Superintendent Daniel Castagna starting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at West Mifflin Area Middle School.

Mr. Castagna, who has been on unpaid leave from the district since July, is facing a DUI charge in Beaver County.

Mr. Castagna also has filed a federal lawsuit against the district and six board members.

The board last week also voted to hire Jeffrey Solomon to the newly created position of director of curriculum, instruction and assessments/federal programs for the district.

His salary is set at $120,000 with a start date to be determined.

The board voted 6-3 on Aug. 16 to create the position. Board members David Marshall, Anthony DiCenzo, Nicholas Alexandroff, Debbie Kostelnik, Stephen Kovac and Erin O'Leary White voted for creating the position. …
