PG editorial director Keith Burris misses the mark in his explanation of why we should all lighten up on the president (Aug. 19 column, "The Kabuki Dance of Disdain"). The media probably does have a liberal bias. But there are plenty of alternative voices, indeed the Post-Gazette has become one of them.

The root of Mr. Burris' complaint about news coverage of the president is not in the media's "obsession," but rather in the abhorrent behavior of the president. His zeal to attack rather than convince and explain makes for efficient 30-second sound bites and pithy print stories. His invective against his perceived enemies is so far outside the norms for society that it becomes the story itself. I can scarcely think of another person in public life who relishes demeaning others as much as he does. …
