ERIC Bailly was not injured for United's 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Monday night and was dropped by Jose Mourinho.

The defender was blameworthy for Brighton's three goals in the Reds' shambolic 3-2 reverse at the Amex Stadium eight days earlier.

Mourinho refused to clarify why Bailly did not feature at Old Trafford but M.E.N. Sport can reveal the 24-year-old centre-back was demoted due to a 'technical decision'.

Juan Mata, Andreas Pereira and Anthony Martial were all substituted at Brighton and also cut from the Tottenham squad, but Bailly's absence was particularly costly as United's new-look defence let in three more goals.

Mourinho also relegated Bailly's partner Victor Lindelof and full-back Ashley Young to the bench as he recalled Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in a back-three which also featured auxiliary defender Ander Herrera. …
