(Sask-Attempted-Murder)

A woman in Regina faces an attempted murder charge after police say they were called to a report of a home invasion.

Police say when they arrived at the scene early Sunday they found a male with serious injuries.

Twenty-seven year-old Samantha Marlene Kakakaway of Regina is charged with attempted murder and failure to comply with a probation order.

Police say they are still investigating. (The Canadian Press)

(Pet-Sore-Seizure)

An Alberta man has been charged after he allegedly abandoned animals in his West Edmonton Mall pet store earlier this year.

The Edmonton Humane Society seized small mammals, reptiles, fish, and amphibians at the now-closed shop on February 27th.

Minchaw Menan Tom of Sherwood Park is facing one count of abandoning animals under the Animal Protection Act, and one count of permitting or causing an animal to be in distress under the Act.

Penalties could include a 20-thousand fine or a lifetime ban from owning a pet. (The Canadian Press)

(Kananaskis-Bear-Attack)

Conservation officers say a bear that injured two hikers in a southern Alberta park retreated after biting into a can of bear spray that one of the people was holding.

Officials with Alberta Parks say a Calgary woman and her adult son were hiking in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park on Saturday afternoon when the bear came out of the forest in front of them.

Kananaskis district conservation officer Arian Spiteri says the woman had dropped her bear spray, but she was able to pick it up again and was about to spray the aerosol deterrent when the bear bit her hand and the canister.

Spiteri says the hikers were able to drive themselves to the Canmore hospital, where they were treated for bites and scratches before being released. (The Canadian Press)
