After the Cardinals won the first nine meetings this season, the Reds have won five of the last seven. This three-game set concludes the season series. The Reds are in the process of running through the gauntlet of NL Central Division leaders, having played Milwaukee and Chicago in the preceding 10 games, going 2-8 in the process.

Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto, who had a lower leg contusion, came off the disabled list on Thursday. Votto leads the NL in on-base percentage at .422. ... Reds reliever Michael Lorenzen has four homers -- two as a pitcher and two as a pinch hitter -- and would be the first pitcher in the live ball era to have as many four homers in a season without starting a game.
