Clean Power Rollback Jobs Will Have a Positive Health Impact

I offer two observations regarding an Associated Press article about the Environmental Protection Agency's analysis of the impacts of the rollback of the Obama administration's Clean Power Plan (Sept. 4, "Trump's Rollback of Pollution Rules to Hit Coal Country Hard").

First, the EPA concludes that there will be about two extra deaths each year per 100,000 people in "the hardest-hit areas." Since everyone without exception dies, these "extra" deaths are really "accelerated" deaths. Moreover, there is no indication if those deaths will be accelerated by one day, one week or one year - clearly this matters greatly.

Second, the article tells only half the story - the bad half about "extra" deaths. It doesn't tell us how many premature deaths will be avoided due to the economic savings of up to $6. …
