The head of Canada's largest oil and gas producer says further production expansions won't be approved into 2020 until there's more clarity on the fate of pipelines.

Steve Williams has told an investor conference in New York that recent judicial rulings affecting the Trans Mountain and Keystone X-L pipeline projects won't have any short-term impacts on Suncor's ability to get its product to market.

But he says he won't commit to additional crude production until he sees "physical progress on the ground" on the pipelines.

The Federal Court of Appeal last week reversed a cabinet decision allowing construction to proceed on Trans Mountain while a U-S federal judge earlier ordered a more thorough review of the Keystone pipeline's proposed route through Nebraska after state regulators changed it. (The Canadian Press)



The Manitoba government has officially handed over a carbon plan to the federal government that calls for a flat 25-dollar per tonne levy.

Sustainable Development Minister Rochelle Squires says the "Made-In-Manitoba" plan is better than the federal proposal calling for a price starting at 10-dollars per tonne of emitted carbon this year, and rising by 10-dollars a year until it hits 50-dollars in 2022.

Squires says the province's plan is expected to reduce emissions by 80-thousand tonnes more than the federally imposed plan by 2022.

She also says all carbon revenues will be returned to Manitobans through lower taxes. (Global)



A man convicted of killing a Saskatoon man last seen in 2008 has been sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 10 years.

Taylor Wolff was handed the sentence today after being found guilty of second-degree murder last month in the death of 43-year-old James Carlson.

Carlson's truck, with work tools, was found days after he was last seen but his body has never been found. …
