VANCOUVER. x-16s. A piece of Tlingit armour from Alaska is one of about 40 northwest coast items lost in a fire that destroyed the National Museum of Brazil on Sunday. Curator Karen Duffek (DUH-fek) of the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia says the painted piece made of wooden slats and a kind of twine or cordage probably dates to the late 1700s, and the Russian consul likely sent it to the Portuguese royal family as a gift before it ended up at the museum.
