APPLETON, N.L. - The U-S ambassador to Canada joined the small Newfoundland community of Appleton today as it marked the 17th anniversary of 9-11.

A service was held to honour those killed in the terror attacks and the Canadians who opened their homes to thousands of stranded passengers.

Ambassador Kelly Craft said the events in Newfoundland following 9-11 tell the true story of the Canada-U-S friendship.

Craft says what we read about the NAFTA negotiations and Twitter wars is not who we are.

While admitting it's business and that it's important, Gander is the place that -- in a snapshot -- illustrates the Canada - U-S relationship.

Seventeen-years ago today, 38 wide-bodied jets carrying about seven-thousand passengers arrived nearby at the Gander International Airport. …
