NAT132 - (SPORTS-OLY-2026-Calgary-Bid) CALGARY. x-18s. A draft plan to for Calgary to potentially host the 2026 Olympics has been presented to City Council. The total cost is expected to be 5.23-billion dollars, with taxpayers shouldering three-billion of that at the federal, provincial and municipal levels. The city's bid corporation Calgary 2026 envisions eight existing venues will be updated and only two new ones will need to be built. A plebiscite on a potential bid is to be held in November, though council could pull the plug. Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi (NAH'-hed NEN'-shee) dismisses criticism that the public doesn't have enough information. ("..this discussion.") (SOURCE: The Canadian Press)
