Young Women 'Illegally Paid Less Than Men'

ONE in five young women are illegally paid less than their male colleagues for the same work, according to a new study.

Research by the Young Women's Trust also found that a third of young women do not know how to report sexual harassment at work.

A survey of 4,000 young people aged 18 to 30 for the charity showed that one in four women would be reluctant to report sexual harassment for fear of losing their job.

A third of young women said they have experienced sex discrimination when working or looking for work while 43pc of young mothers have suffered maternity discrimination.

Young women remain more likely to be on low pay, job insecurity has increased and debt levels have risen, said the report. More than a quarter said their financial situation has got worse in the past year. …
