Light Rail System's Blue Line- Library May Reopen on Sunday

Port Authority said Thursday it expects to test its closed Blue Line-Library on Saturday, and if it passes inspections, the light rail line will reopen with the start of service on Sunday.

The line has been closed from Lytle Station to Library since June 20, when storms washed out more than 900 tons of ballast stones and damaged retaining walls beside the tracks. In addition to replacing the stones and installing gabion baskets as retaining walls, crews have reset dozens of utility poles and removed downed trees.

The authority had hoped to reopen the line by September, but work was delayed when crews were shifted to help repair tracks at Station Square that were damaged Aug. 5 when a Norfolk Southern freight train derailed.

In a news release, the authority said crews are finishing repairs and expect to operate a test vehicle on the tracks Saturday. …
