Chapman's Return from DL Getting Closer

NEW YORK – Aroldis Chapman will throw a bullpen session Saturday as he continues to make his way back.

The Yankees' closer has been on the disabled list since Aug. 22 with left knee tendinitis.

Chapman's bullpen session on Saturday will be the second he's thrown off a mound since going on the DL. He will then throw in a simulated game, which manager Aaron Boone said could come as soon as Monday.

"And then if all goes well in those next weeks he should move to being activated for us," Boone said.

Chapman's progress is encouraging for the Yankees. He's confident he will return before the end of the regular season.

"Very optimistic," Chapman said through an interpreter. "I feel like there's a very good chance I'll pitch before the season is over."
