Federal Tax Cuts to Trickle Down to Duquesne Customers Next Year

Duquesne Light Co. has come to an agreement with regulators and consumer advocates on rate increases, the electric utility announced on Friday.

In a settlement petition filed with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, the Downtown-based company is proposing to raise residential rates by 4.4 percent, or about $4.36 a month for the average user. The new rates would begin in December.

The increase for commercial and industrial customers will be just under 2 percent, with an average monthly hike of $19.46 for the former and $364.77 for the latter.

Mitigating the increases is a proposed $25 credit per customer that Duquesne Light plans to issue in January as a way of spreading the tax benefits it received from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. …
