A DRUGS smuggler who hid more than £1m of amphetamine in the lining of a suitcase has been jailed.

Gholamreza Pourmirzaei, from Moss Side, was stopped by Border Force officers at Stansted Airport after flying to the UK from Turkey.

X-rays revealed a huge quantity of Class A methylamphetamine was hidden in the lining at the bottom of the suitcase.

On the same day - November 21, 2016 - National Crime Agency [NCA] officers searched the 46-year-old's home in Kippax Street and seized £3,965 in cash.

The NCA investigation found Pourmirzaei travelled to Turkey and Iran on 31 occasions in 2016. Officers believe he was regularly smuggling large amounts of drugs into the UK.

Following a six-day trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, Pourmirzaei was found guilty of being knowingly concerned in the importation of controlled drugs. …
