'Cirque Eloize: Hotel' Checks into City's Festival of Firsts

Seeking a fitting way to celebrate 25 years of global entertainment, Cirque Eloize pinpointed a place where the traveling Montreal troupe has spent a good bit of those years - the hotel lobby.

Eloize translates roughly to "heat lighting" in Canada's Acadian French dialect, and "Cirque Eloize: Hotel" is an attempt to capture lightning in a bottle (or is it a lobby?) in its 15th production. "Hotel" arrives at Pittsburgh's Benedum Tuesday and has its official world premiere Thursday as part of the PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh season and the Festival of Firsts.

Co-founder and artistic director Jeannot Painchaud said, "We have visited 500 cities in 65 countries, and we realized one thing they all had in common - the hotel lobby. We love the lobby, the hotel, as a place to meet people from all countries and all ages. …
