THE Royal Mail have launched an investigation after a staff member is alleged to have stolen mail.

The worker, who was employed at a delivery office in Salford, is understood to have taken post home with him.

He is then alleged to have destroyed the stolen post by burning it in his garden.

The staff member has since resigned from his position following the allegations.

Royal Mail said it has launched an investigation into a staff member on suspicion of delaying and destroying mail.

Greater Manchester Police are also involved.

Royal Mail has been unable to reveal how many letters were taken.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: "Royal Mail is investigating a staff member on the suspicion of delaying and destroying mail.

"These investigations are ongoing and the staff member has resigned from his post. …
