A 22-STOREY hotel tower could be built next to a historic former bank on Piccadilly.

Japanese hotel brand, Toyoko Inn, plans to erect a 350-bedroom hotel on land currently used as a car park in front of the Waldorf pub, between Chatham Street and Gore Street.

The planning application, submitted to Manchester council, includes proposals to restore and re-use the grade-two listed former Union Bank of Manchester, which sits next to the vacant site on Piccadilly.

Developers behind the proposals say they intend to 'create a hotel of exceptional quality', and incorporate the 'significant architectural and historic merit' of the neighbouring Union House. If plans are approved, the hotel will be Toyoko's first in the UK after launching its first European ventures in Frankfurt and Marseille. …
