Mesoraco Returns, but Offseason Reunion Unlikely

WASHINGTON – Catch Devin Mesoraco returned to the lineup Friday after being sidelined since Sept. 3 due to an epidural in his back.

He had being diagnosed with a bulging disc in his back.

Friday's start allowed him to work with Jacob deGrom, who enjoys throwing to him.

"Throwing, hitting, he's in a really good spot," Mets manager Mickey Callaway said of deGrom. "Both he and deGrom like to see him behind the plate tonight."

While Mesoraco missed nearly three months, he's going to finish the season having played in his most games since his 2014 All-Star season.

Mesoraco, 30, played in only 95 games spanning the last three years. The Mets acquired him from the Reds in May in exchange for Matt Harvey, and Friday marked his 81st game. Mesoraco entered the game hitting .211 with a .678 OPS with the Mets. …
