Prioritize Bicycle Safety to Boost Tourism

We all can agree that Pittsburgh is a special place. Right now, Pittsburgh is particularly unique as a worldwide bicycle tourism destination due to its location at one end of the Great Allegheny Passage, a continuous trail to Washington, D.C. via the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath.

My partner and I (a Pennsylvania native and Unviersity of Pittsbrugh graduate) moved to Pittsburgh after a bicycle tour, which included a memorable ride on the GAP. We so enjoyed the spirit of the trail that we wanted to live in close proximity to it and join the community that supports this national treasure. Hundreds of thousands of people are visiting Pittsburgh to start or finish rides on this beautiful trail, and it is extremely disheartening to see the lack of safe bicycling infrastructure that greets them. …
