BC06 - (Tug-Aground-Lawsuit)

VANCOUVER. x-18s. The Heiltsuk First Nation has filed a civil lawsuit against the provincial and federal governments and the American owner of a tug boat that ran aground off B-C's coast two years ago. The Nathan E. Stewart, owned by Houston-based Kirby Offshore Marine, spilled 110 thousand litres of fuel and diesel in waters near Bella Bella in October 2016. Hereditary Chief Harvey Humchitt says the First Nation has lost access to its food source and culture and the suit is an attempt to get justice for that damage.
