OLD BARNS, N.S. x-18s. A controversial plan to let a Nova Scotia cement plant burn massive numbers of tires has been given a regulatory green light by the province. The Environment Department issued industrial approval to the Lafarge plant in Brookfield, allowing it to conduct a one-year pilot project to incinerate tires. Fred Blois, who was part of residents group that lost a court bid for a judicial review of the project's environmental approval, dismissed the province's process.
