(WEA-Tropical-Weather-Michael)

Mexico Beach, Florida, was ground zero for hurricane Michael, the epic Category 4 storm that slammed ashore on Florida's northwest Gulf Coast on Wednesday.

The beachfront town of 12-hundred looks like a bomb hit it.

The storm's damage was widespread.

Downed trees, streets inundated by rising waters,and multiple rescues of motorists from waterlogged cars are the story in spots around Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia, too.

More than 900-thousand homes and businesses in Florida, Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas are without power. (3)

(Alta-Harvest-Warning)

A coalition of farm groups is warning the Alberta government to be ready to respond quickly to an expected poor harvest.

Alberta Barley, Alberta Canola, Alberta Pulse Growers and the Alberta Wheat Commission are among the groups calling themselves "Team Alberta."

They warn over three-billion dollars worth of crops remain in the fields and government agencies need to be prepared to respond promptly to unharvested claims.

Cold weather and snow have led to some crops being harvested wet or left in the fields, which affects quality. (3)

(BC-Pipeline-Fire)

Enbridge says it's maintaining a one-kilometre security zone around the site of Tuesday's explosion and fire along its pipeline near Prince George, B-C.

The company says the zone will remain in place to ensure public safety and the integrity of a multi-pronged investigation into the cause of the explosion.

Natural gas service is now being restored to much of B-C. (3)

(Canada-Steel)

Ottawa is moving to head off steel dumping, and will slap a 25 per cent surtax on some foreign steel products.

The Finance Department says "excessive imports" are harming the steel industry, prompting it to impose a surtax on seven products ranging from rebar to wire rods.

The surtax will kick in October 25th and remain in effect for 200 days, pending an inquiry by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal. …
