Infant School Shuts after Ceiling Crashes Down

AN INFANT school is to remain closed after the ceiling collapsed just hours after children had left for the day.

The headteacher of St Thomas' CE Primary in Heaton Chapel, Stockport, said the entire ceiling of the school hall collapsed on Friday evening.

It is not yet known if the incident was related to Storm Callum, which brought trees down, blocking roads and train lines, in parts of the region.

St Thomas' has two sites - a junior school on Buckingham Road, and infants at Wellington Road North, where the damage happened.

Parents say it happened just a few hours after children at after-school club, which is held in the hall, had left the building.

In a statement to parents', the school's headteacher, Mrs K Morris, said an in-depth investigation would take place and the infant site would remain closed until it was certain that the building was safe. …
