RAHEEM Sterling has put his goalscoring success down to giving up on 'looking nice'.

The City winger netted twice in the opening 45 minutes against Spain on Monday night - after notching as many in his previous 45 international games - as England ran out 3-2 winners in Seville.

It was his first England strike in three years and his first ever away from home, as he became the first England player to find the target against Spain on Spanish soil in 31 years.

And Sterling, who played in a front three with Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford, says his goals were a product of operating in his most effective role.

"As a forward you can go through patches but the majority of the time when I was coming here [to England] I was trying to look nice," he said.

"Now I'm forgetting about looking nice and being more clinical and just getting in behind and causing havoc when I'm running in behind. …
