Advocates for small dispensaries and craft cannabis growers say the cannabis black market will continue to thrive in Canada until they're included in the legal pot regime.

Illegal dispensaries in cities like Victoria and Vancouver kept their doors open yesterday as recreational bud became legal across the country.

British Columbians can legally buy weed online, but the province's only legal brick-and-mortar outlet is in Kamloops.

But, many consumers say they prefer buying on the black market, either out of loyalty or frugality given that prices at government-run stores tend to be higher.(4)

(Missing-Woman-Homicide)

A Nova Scotia man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a woman from eastern Ontario.

Ontario Provincial Police say 26-year-old Emilie Maheu was last seen alive leaving work in Alexandria, Ontario last Thursday afternoon.

She was found dead two days later in nearby South Glengarry Township, and police asked for help from the public.

Police say 25-year-old Brandon Smeltzer of Bayside, Nova Scotia was arrested Tuesday in New Brunswick and will be taken to Cornwall, Ontario for a court appearance at a time not yet disclosed. (4)

(Manitoba-Bus-Death)

Manitoba's Opposition party is calling for an inquest into the death of an Indigenous man during a 10-hour bus trip to Winnipeg for a medical appointment on October 3rd.

Fifty-eight-year-old Abraham Donkey was travelling from Thompson for an appointment after a recent heart surgery.

N-D-P Leader Wab Kinew says neither the provincial nor federal governments offered to pay for a flight to Winnipeg, or to cover expenses for a relative to accompany Donkey to his followup.

He says what led to his death raises many questions, and Donkey's loved ones deserve answers.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the Indigenous Services Department is looking into what happened. …
