ALBERT Square came alive with Bollywood music and Bhangra dancing during Diwali celebrations on Saturday.

Fireworks and a lantern procession lit up the skies as crowds celebrated the Hindu festival.

There were live performances, food and craft ale during the 13th annual Dashehra Diwali Mela.

The festival, which also falls on Hindu New Year, marks the victory of good over evil or light over darkness.

Lamps are lit to celebrate the hope of mankind - symbolising the end of ignorance and beginnings of enlightenment.
