FAMOUS for black pudding, the Neville brothers and it's legendary 500-year old market, and now Bury has been revealed as the most entrepreneurial area in Greater Manchester.

The accolade is based on the highest rate of firms launched last year, according to the Red Flag Alert Start-up Index. According to analysis by Manchester-based business intelligence service Red Flag Alert, 5,644 start-ups were launched in the town last year. With a population of 189,628, this works out as 29 per 1,000 people, a rate twice as many as its nearest rival Manchester, which saw 8,816 new enterprises launched. This works out as 16 per 1,000 people, based on its population of 545,501.Bottom of the table was Wigan - five start-ups per 1,000 people - despite having the second largest population in Greater Manchester with 324,650. …
