1996 November 1: United manager Sir Alex Ferguson reopens the temporary Marks and Spencer store in Manchester four months after Irish Republican Army (IRA) bomb blast in the city.

Sir Alex is holding baby Sam Hughes who was lucky to escape the explosion with his life.

A security guard grabbed baby Sam from his pram and ran with him to safety after a window shattered over him and his parents Lisa and Perry, also in the picture.

The 1,500 kilogram bomb left on Corporation Street on Saturday 15 June was the biggest detonated in the UK since World War II. More than 200 people were injured but there were no fatalities.

The area was evacuated following a telephone warning from the IRA 90 minutes before the blast.
