Ahn Adding Cancer Treatment Complex at New Westmoreland County Hospital

Allegheny Health Network is adding a cancer treatment center at its Westmoreland County mini-hospital, taking aim at Excela Health and that health system's partner UPMC in cancer treatment.

AHN Cancer Institute-Hempfield will be a 55,000-square-foot complex at the site of AHN's 10- to 12-bed hospital, which is being built on a nine-acre tract on Route 30 at Agnew Road in Hempfield.The center - AHN's fifth for cancer care - is expected to open late next year.

"We are excited to bring a high level of cancer care to our patients who live in Westmoreland County and to see our network of cancer treatment sites continue to grow across Western Pennsylvania," AHN president and CEO Cynthia Hundorfean said in a prepared statement.

Excela president and CEO Bob Rogalski, who previously criticized AHN's plans to build a hospital two miles from Excela Health Greensburg, declined to comment on AHN's plans Monday. …
